The U.S. Department of Justice's Environment and Natural Resources Division, Law and Policy Section is seeking a student who is attending evening classes in a graduate program to fill a full-time paid student aide position. The student aide will be assigned to projects in several substantive areas of the Division's work, and will also have the opportunity to obtain experience working with lawyers at one of the Nation's premier litigation organizations. Must be able to work 40 hours per week during standard working hours. A part-time law school student would have the ideal background for this position, but other types of student will also be considered. The Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice handles environmental and natural resources litigation on behalf of the United States in courts across the Nation. The Law and Policy Section advises and assists the Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division on legal and policy questions, particularly those that affect multiple sections in the Division. It handles the Division's response to legislative proposals and Congressional requests, the Division's comments on federal agency rulemakings, and amicus participation in cases of importance to the United States, as well as special litigation and other projects on behalf of Division leadership. LPS serves as the Division's ethics officer and counselor, alternative dispute resolution counselor, and liaison with state and local governments. The section also coordinates the Division's involvement in international legal matters, as well as the Division's FOIA and Privacy Act work. Job opportunities can range from part-time to full-time positions and may last as long as you are a qualified and eligible student.
